Blackberry Jalapeño Margarita

Blackberry Jalapeño Margarita

Blackberries are a warm weather favorite of mine. I have fond memories of picking buckets full when I had wild blackberries growing freely in my backyard, so you can imagine I was finding every possible way to use them. This fresh blackberry cocktail packs a little heat and is versatile! Pair with barbecue for a sweet and spicy flavor experience or serve as dessert for a fun alternative!

Blackberry Jalapeño Margarita Ingredients

Blackberries - a warm weather favorite of mine. They juicy with a bold, sweet, and slightly tart flavor. They pair nicely with a great variety of other flavors both sweet and savory, which makes them the perfect pairing for this variation of a jalapeño margarita.

Jalapeños - Jalapeños are medium hot peppers that originated from Mexico. They taste similar to a green bell pepper except that they pack a spicy punch. The savory pepper flavor pairs nicely with the tart lime juice in this cocktail, making it a bright and refreshing experience.

Tequila - Pick your favorite tequila blanco and go with it! I used Tesoro #5 Blanco which is 100% agave, affordable and has a smooth flavor.

Limes - It wouldn’t be a margarita without a little lime in it, right?! Fresh lime juice has the punchiest flavor, but you can also use store bought lime juice, it works just as well.

Blackberry Jalapeño Margarita Recipe Tips

Rinse the Blackberries - Chemical sprays are often used when growing berries so make sure you rinse them well!

Strain the Blackberry Puree - Blackberries are full of seeds, and the seeds are too small for the blender to refine. By straining your mixture, you can eliminate the crunchy texture that the seeds will cause.

Adjust as You Go - With every recipe, I recommend tasting along the way and adjust the amount of any of the ingredient to suit your taste.

Blackberry Jalapeño Margarita Variations

Use Frozen Blackberries - This will create a smoothie like texture. If you go this route, for best results I recommend blending the ice with the other ingredients rather than pouring over ice.

Turn Up the Heat - If you want to turn up the flavor profile on this cocktail to smokin’ hot, try it with mezcal instead of tequila and Serrano Peppers instead of Jalapeño. You can substitute these at a 1:1 ratio.

Make it a Mocktail - It’s easy, just ditch the tequila and add another ounce of lime juice.
