Spicy Tamarind Margarita
It’s…cocktail time! Today I’m sharing a Spicy Tamarind Margarita inspired by local bar Prizefighter’s spin on the classic margarita.
I first tried a tamarind margarita at Prizefighter, a local bar located in Emeryville, and I was immediately hooked. It’s my go to now when I go there. But when I’m staying in this recipe is a great alternative - it’s a little sweet, a little sour, and a little spicy.
What is Tamarind?
Tamarind is fruit from the Tamarind Tree which is native to Africa and also grows in parts of Asia. The edible fruit from this tree looks like large brown seed pods (like a pea pod but larger) and has a sweet and sour flavor.
The easiest and most common way to add tamarind to a cocktail is to use a paste. You can make the paste yourself or buy it at a local grocery store - usually whole foods carries Neera's Tamarind Paste.
Can i make this drink without any Alcohol?
Absolutely! To make this drink into a mocktail, simply replace the tequila with lime juice or water, depending on how tart you like your margaritas.
