Childhood Nostalgia
In honor of my birthday, I’m taking a little trip down memory lane...
Earlier this month I moved out of my cute little historic studio apartment in Oakland to relocate to Alameda, California. Alameda is an island in the bay area, located across from San Francisco and right off the coast of Oakland. The island is most famous for the epic Antique Fair that takes place once a month. This is one of my favorite places to shop for vintage clothing and collectibles. There are literally MILES of booths where sellers have carefully curated the best collections and I will spend hours there. I love thinking about the history that goes along with each piece I find.
Here’s a picture of me at the Antique Fair Circa 2013. Gosh it feels like forever ago.
Other than hunting for vintage and antiques, I love to spend my time designing, building, sewing, and baking. I was going through some old papers that I found in a box during the move, and guess what I saved all these years? Drawings of home plans I had made when I was a kid - I wanted to grow up to be an architect and I used to draw pages and pages of home plans. To my astonishment (looking at them through the eyes of an adult) I was surprised at how well drawn they were.
Here’s one I drew circa 2002. Not too shabby!
I also wanted to be a movie star. I dreamed of living in a cozy turtleneck and wearing disdain on my sleeve like Clare Danes in My So Called Life (1994) or starring as Becky alongside Jonathan Taylor Thomas (better known as JTT) in Tom and Huck (1995). I’m not sure what happened with that, but I did make it through film school and even got to act a little bit! When I was a little older, I was starstruck by the fancy feet of Ginger Rogers and Eleanor Powell.
This picture of me has nothing to do with my interest in being famous, but hey, I was the same size as a large feline so here you go! Circa sometime during my childhood.
I was the one kid who actually had a pony and I give you permission to hate me for it. Poky was our little shetland pony. He was a constant in my childhood memories and on into my adulthood until he died at an impressively old age. He was the perfect size to ride, perfectly soft to pet, and he had the most perfectly sweet personally. Simply put, he was perfect!
Here’s a picture of Poky circa 1999. Great angle!
Well, enough about me! I wanna hear what makes you feel nostalgic in the comments below! I sure hope you enjoyed this offbeat post :)

P.S. Should I do a post on childhood pets??
