Gin Mule

It’s Friday and you know what that means - time for a cocktail recipe! Today I’m sharing a refreshing treat: the gin mule. The best part about this drink? It’s versatile and can be enjoyed year round! The ice cold bubbly nature of this drink appeals to a hot summer day, while the warming ginger flavor appeals to a chilly day in winter.

Side note - I used store bought fresh mint for this recipe, however I just recently bought a fresh mint plant for my garden and can’t wait to start using it in my cocktail recipes :)

What is a Gin Mule?

Also known as a gin-gin mule for it’s use of gin and ginger beer, this is a twist on the classic moscow mule - the ingredients are the same, but switch out vodka for gin!

What Kind of Glass Can I Serve a Gin Mule in?

A copper mug is the traditional way to serve a mule and that is what I’ve used for this recipe. The mug is not just for looks - copper helps to keep the drink chilled for a longer period of time.

Can I make a Gin Mule without any Alcohol?

Absolutely you can! Substitute the gin with Juniper Water or a non-alcoholic gin.

How to make a Gin Mule

Ingredients

  • 1 ounce gin

  • 1 ounce lime juice

  • 1 ounce simple syrup (optional)

  • 2 sprigs of mint, washed

  • Ice

  • 1 cup ginger beer

Directions

Step One - Fill a copper mug with crushed ice.

Step Two - Add gin, lime juice, and simple syrup (optional) to a shaker. Add mint - rip them up or muddle them to release the flavor. Add a cup of ice. Secure the top of the shaker and shake for 10 seconds.

Step Three - Pour over ice and top off with ginger beer (fill the glass to the brim). Garnish with a slice of lime and a sprig of mint.

Cheers!
