Bedroom Decor refresh with Spoonflower Fabric

I’m a big fan of Spoonflower for a few reasons. If you don’t know, Spoonflower is an online marketplace where you can purchase custom printed fabrics, wallpaper, and products. I love that it’s an easy way to support designers who are designing unique and beautiful prints in every style! I’m often hunting for bold 1960s and 1970s florals that can be hard to find in the area I live in, so Spoonflower really saves me here.

Because the marketplace is online, there are a few things to consider before purchasing, so I thought I’d share my tips!

Tips for shopping for fabric on Spoonflower

Pick the appropriate Fabric for your Project

Think about the type of project you are doing and choose your fabric type accordingly. The options they currently (as of August 2024) offer - cotton silk, seersucker, recycled canvas, modern jersey, cotton lawn, satin, dogwood denim, organic cotton knit, lightweight cotton twill, cotton spandex jersey, poly crepe de chine, sport stretch woven, cotton poplin, organic cotton sateen, essex linen, chiffon, sport lycra, sport piqué, organic sweet pea gauze, and polartec fleece. As you can see, Spoonflower offers so many options and if you are not well versed in textiles, it can be a bit confusing if you aren’t familiar with textiles.

Order Samples

Ordering samples is a smart way to make sure that the weight and texture of the fabric is appropriate for you project, and also to check the scale of the print (if you’ve chosen a printed fabric). When shopping online, all too often a print will look much smaller or bigger than it is in real life, and what a shame to spend good $$$ on something you aren’t completely happy with.

I did some surfing on the Spoonflower website and picked out this beautiful print from LAURA_MAY_DESIGNS in lightweight cotton twill. I was lucky to get it on sale, which is worth the wait - sometimes they have sales as much as 30% off, and their sales typically run around the holidays.

I would absolutely love to wallpaper a room, but sadly I am a renter at the moment and we are not allowed to touch the walls (not even with paint!!) As soon as my living situation allows, you can bet I’ll be getting my claws on some wallpaper from Spoonflower as well!

Though I only switched out a cushion and a bolster, it really felt like I altered the whole design feel of the room. Let me know what you think in the comments below!
